For over 60 years the Colton family was the premier publisher of maps in the United States. J.H. Colton, the company founder, issued his first ‘General Atlas’ in 1855 and continued publishing this atlas until 1888. These are the first maps we have ever offered from his 1861 ‘General Atlas’. We believe these 1861 maps are some of his most difficult to find. Every collection should have at least one map by J.H. Colton.
